Same-sex relationships have become an increasingly prominent social issue within Indonesian society, including in Talang Subdistrict, South Teluk Betung District, Bandar Lampung City. The emergence of this phenomenon has generated diverse responses, particularly among community leaders who play a significant role in shaping public opinion, religious values, and social norms. This study aims to analyze the perspectives of community leaders regarding same-sex relationships and to examine the issue from the perspective of Islamic law. This research employs a qualitative method with a juridical-normative and sociological approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with religious leaders, traditional leaders, and local community figures, supported by literature studies of Islamic legal sources such as the Qur’an, Hadith, ijma’, and scholarly opinions. The findings indicate that the majority of community leaders in Talang Subdistrict perceive same-sex relationships as contrary to Islamic teachings, social norms, and local cultural values. From the perspective of Islamic law, same-sex relationships are classified as prohibited (haram) acts because they contradict human nature (fitrah) and the objectives of Islamic law (maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah), particularly in safeguarding lineage (ḥifẓ al-nasl) and moral integrity (ḥifẓ al-‘ird). Nevertheless, community leaders emphasize the importance of adopting persuasive, educational, and moral guidance approaches in addressing this phenomenon, rather than relying solely on repressive measures. This study is expected to contribute to the academic discourse on Islamic law and to serve as a reference for society and policymakers in formulating socio-religious policies grounded in Islamic values and local wisdom.
