Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) teachers in fostering students' character at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Swasta At-Taqwa Manado during the 2024/2025 academic year. This research employed a qualitative approach using descriptive methods. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that IRE teachers play a crucial role as educators, mentors, and role models in shaping students’ morals. Teachers do not merely teach religious subjects but also instill moral and spiritual values through example and religious activities such as regular recitations and congregational prayers. Strategies used include exemplary behavior, affective approaches, and religious activities. However, several challenges arise, including external environmental influences, limited time, and lack of parental support. The success of character building is influenced by the quality of the teachers, parental involvement, and a supportive social environment. With cooperation among teachers, parents, and the community, character development can be more effective and sustainable. This study highlights that the active role of IRE teachers is significantly influential in developing students' noble character, particularly within the madrasah setting.
