This study aims to analyze how the management model of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) can enhance the independence of students (santri). The primary focus of the study is on the strategies implemented by the pesantren in developing independent character, covering aspects of education, skills, and the management of students’ daily lives. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews with pesantren supervisors, students, and alumni, as well as analysis of the pesantren’s management policy documents. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the pesantren apply a management model based on Islamic values, emphasizing discipline, responsibility, and independence. The main strategies implemented include fostering habits of independent work, entrepreneurship programs for students, and dormitory-based educational patterns that instill discipline and independence in daily life. Factors supporting the success of this model include the strong role of the kyai and supervisors in providing exemplary behavior, as well as an educational system that integrates theory with practical experience. The effective pesantren management model for enhancing students’ independence is one that combines academic learning, skills training, and character development based on Islamic values. Therefore, this model can serve as a reference for other Islamic educational institutions in shaping a generation of independent students who are prepared to face life’s challenges.
