Principal Supervision, Islamic Religious Education Teacher PerformanceAbstract
The supervision activities conducted by the school principal are carried out in a planned and continuous manner with the aim of improving teachers’ performance in the learning process. Although teachers’ performance was already considered good prior to the supervision, it could not yet be regarded as optimal. This study focuses on examining the implementation of supervision by the school principal and its impact on teachers’ performance in teaching. The research problems addressed include: 1) how the school principal implements supervision to enhance teacher performance, 2) the actions taken by the principal to improve the performance of Islamic Religious Education teachers, and 3) the challenges faced by the principal in enhancing the performance of Islamic Religious Education teachers.
This study is a field research using data collection methods such as observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted to assess the improvement in teachers’ performance. The findings indicate that the principal’s supervision is conducted systematically, in a planned, and continuous manner. During the planning stage, the principal determines which teachers will be observed, sets the observation schedule, prepares observation guidelines, and decides whether the observation will be overt or covert based on mutual agreement with the teachers. During the observation stage, the principal’s activities do not disrupt classroom learning; in fact, at the end of the lesson, the principal motivates students to continue learning diligently. In the follow-up stage, the results of the supervision are discussed collaboratively between the principal and the teachers, highlighting areas of improvement in teaching with the expectation that teachers will make necessary enhancements in the future.
