Abstract

This study examines the implementation of School-Based Management (SBM) in improving the quality of education in madrasahs. SBM is understood as a decentralized approach that grants schools greater autonomy in planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs according to their specific needs and institutional potential. In madrasah settings, SBM becomes essential as quality improvement is no longer solely dependent on central policies but also on internal school management capacity. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed in this research. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Informants included the madrasah principal, teachers, education staff, and school committee members. Data analysis followed the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, focusing on SBM implementation patterns in enhancing educational quality. The findings reveal that SBM implementation provides greater autonomy for madrasahs in managing educational resources. The principal plays a central role in program planning, decision-making, and quality development. Teachers are actively involved in planning and evaluation processes, fostering a strong sense of ownership toward school programs. Nevertheless, several challenges remain, such as limited resources, suboptimal parental involvement, and varying managerial competencies within schools. This study highlights that the success of SBM largely depends on the synergy among principals, teachers, school committees, and the community in building a sustainable culture of quality.
