This study aims to analyze the role of the principal in improving teacher professionalism through academic supervision in schools. Teacher professionalism is one of the important factors in improving the quality of learning and educational outcomes. Therefore, principals have a strategic responsibility in guiding, directing, and developing teacher competencies through effective and sustainable academic supervision. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation involving principals, teachers, and educational staff as research subjects. The results of the study indicate that principals play an active role in improving teacher professionalism through academic supervision planning, classroom observation, feedback provision, teacher competency development, and evaluation of the learning process. Academic supervision was carried out in a structured and continuous manner to assist teachers in improving their pedagogical, professional, social, and personal competencies in the learning process. In addition, principals also provided motivation, training, and opportunities for teachers to participate in professional development activities such as workshops, seminars, and Subject Teacher Consultations (Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran / MGMP). The implementation of academic supervision had a positive impact on improving the quality of learning, teachers’ creativity in teaching, discipline, and students’ learning outcomes. Supporting factors in the implementation of academic supervision include effective principal leadership, cooperation among teachers, and a conducive school culture. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors include limited time, teachers’ administrative workload, and the lack of understanding among some teachers regarding the importance of academic supervision. Therefore, the role of the principal through academic supervision is very important in improving teacher professionalism and the quality of education in schools.
