Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Islamic character education in Islamic Religious Education learning at schools. Islamic character education is a process of shaping students’ personalities based on Islamic values, such as religiosity, honesty, discipline, responsibility, tolerance, and noble character (akhlakul karimah). In the context of formal education, Islamic Religious Education learning has a strategic role in instilling Islamic character values through learning activities, habituation, role modeling, and school culture. This research employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation involving Islamic Religious Education teachers, students, and the school environment. The findings indicate that the implementation of Islamic character education is carried out through the integration of character values into learning materials, habituation of religious activities, teachers’ exemplary behavior, and the application of an Islamic school culture. This implementation positively impacts students’ behavior, including increased discipline, responsibility, politeness, social awareness, and worship consciousness. However, the implementation of Islamic character education still faces several challenges, such as social environmental influences, the development of digital technology, and the lack of family support in character building. Therefore, synergy among schools, teachers, parents, and the community is needed so that Islamic character education can be implemented optimally and sustainably.
