Abstract

This study aims to develop a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) model for madrasah teachers based on the Community of Practice (CoP) framework. Professional development of madrasah teachers faces various challenges, including limited training budgets and minimal inter-educator collaboration. The CoP-based model offers a more contextual and sustainable alternative approach. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and questionnaires from 48 madrasah teachers across three provinces. The results indicate that the developed CoP model consists of five main components: (1) knowledge-sharing community, (2) collaborative reflective practice, (3) peer mentoring, (4) collaborative classroom action research, and (5) portfolio-based evaluation. Model trials showed significant improvements in pedagogical competence (gain score 0.64), professional competence (gain score 0.71), and teacher self-development motivation (p < 0.05). This model proved effective in sustainably enhancing the professional capacity of madrasah teachers in the context of Islamic education in Indonesia.
