Same-sex relationships have become a growing social phenomenon that generates various responses within society, particularly in communities with strong religious values. This study aims to analyze the views of community leaders on same-sex relationships and examine them from the perspective of Islamic law. The research was conducted in Sukajaya Pidada Village, Punduh Pedada District, Pesawaran Regency, an area known for upholding religious and cultural norms in daily social life. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with community leaders, religious figures, and local government officials, supported by observation and documentation. The findings reveal that most community leaders in Sukajaya Pidada Village strongly reject same-sex relationships, considering them contrary to Islamic teachings, social norms, and local cultural values. Their views are primarily based on interpretations of the Qur’an, Hadith, and opinions of classical and contemporary Islamic scholars who emphasize the prohibition of homosexual and lesbian behavior. From the perspective of Islamic law, same-sex relationships are categorized as prohibited (haram) acts because they contradict human nature (fitrah), the purpose of human creation, and the objectives of Islamic law (maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah), particularly the protection of lineage (ḥifẓ al-nasl) and moral integrity (ḥifẓ al-‘ird). However, the study also finds that some community leaders emphasize a persuasive and educational approach in responding to this phenomenon, such as through religious guidance, moral education, and strengthening Islamic values, while still upholding humanitarian principles. Therefore, this study concludes that the rejection of same-sex relationships in Sukajaya Pidada Village is not merely normative and religious in nature but is also accompanied by social efforts to maintain harmony and social order in accordance with Islamic values.
