Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of academic supervision by the school principal in improving teacher performance at SMP Al-Adzkiya, Cianjur Regency. The research employed a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed descriptively. The findings show that academic supervision at SMP Al-Adzkiya is carried out in a planned and systematic manner, beginning with planning, classroom observation, and followed by reflective meetings between the principal and teachers. The academic supervision conducted has had a positive impact on enhancing teacher performance, particularly in lesson planning, the use of innovative teaching strategies and media, and better student learning assessment. Moreover, academic supervision has fostered a more professional and collaborative work climate within the school. Supporting factors include the principal’s communicative leadership, a supportive school culture, and teacher openness to professional development. Challenges encountered include limited time availability and the administrative workload of the principal. The study concludes that effective academic supervision plays a vital role in improving the quality of education through the development of teacher competence and professionalism
