Implementing a learning method without the support of media can quickly make children feel bored and less motivated to learn, especially in early childhood, whose learning process is characterized by learning through play. Storytelling is one of the important learning activities for young children because it can increase knowledge and enrich vocabulary, thereby supporting language development. However, if storytelling activities are uninteresting and not engaging, children will feel uncomfortable, and the intended messages will not be effectively received. Therefore, the use of media is very important and recommended in learning, so that storytelling becomes more engaging and anticipated by children. In this study, the media used is visual media in the form of hand puppets, which can be seen by the students.
Based on the background of the problem, educators play an important role in developing children’s language skills through the application of storytelling methods in kindergartens. Through storytelling, children not only gain new knowledge but also enhance their imagination, thinking abilities, and questioning skills using proper language.
In this study, the researcher employed a descriptive qualitative method. Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation.
Based on the results of field research conducted over several meetings, the analysis shows that the implementation of storytelling using hand puppet media can improve children’s language skills more effectively. The learning process becomes more enjoyable, and positive interaction occurs between students and teachers. Children at the kindergarten gained enjoyable learning experiences, acquired additional information, and improved their vocabulary through storytelling with hand puppet media.
