Loose parts play is one of the learning media that can be utilized to stimulate the development of early childhood language skills. This media provides children with opportunities to explore freely through various shapes, textures, and symbols, thereby helping them recognize letters and develop early reading skills. However, the ability to recognize letters and early reading skills in several early childhood education institutions still faces various challenges. Therefore, innovative learning approaches are needed to improve children's language skills, one of which is through the optimal use of loose parts media in the learning process.
This study aims to determine children's responses to the use of loose parts media in language learning, identify the obstacles experienced by teachers, and analyze the effectiveness of the media in improving letter recognition skills among early childhood students in kindergarten. This research employed a qualitative approach with data collection techniques consisting of observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects included teachers and children from an early childhood education institution that has implemented loose parts media in teaching and learning activities.
The results of the study indicate that the use of loose parts media can increase children's enthusiasm, activeness, and motivation in recognizing and exploring various letter forms through play activities. Based on the analysis of the learning outcomes, loose parts media was considered effective in improving children's ability to recognize letters. Nevertheless, its implementation still encountered several obstacles, including limited teacher preparation time for loose parts materials and difficulties in maintaining children's concentration during the activities.
