Abstract

The development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the digital era has significantly impacted the transformation of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning in higher education, particularly in improving students' religious literacy. This study aims to analyze the role of artificial intelligence in improving Islamic Religious Education (PAI) students' religious literacy and its implications for critical thinking skills and Islamic understanding in the digital age. The method used was a qualitative study with a library research approach, through analysis of various scientific literature sources, including books, journals, articles, and previous research relevant to the research topic over the past five years. The results indicate that the use of artificial intelligence in PAI learning can improve students' ability to understand, analyze, and critically evaluate religious information through various AI-based digital platforms such as Islamic chatbots, interactive learning media, and adaptive learning applications. Furthermore, the use of AI also helps students filter valid religious information, thereby reducing the spread of hoaxes, radicalism, and immoderate religious understanding. In conclusion, the integration of artificial intelligence in PAI learning is effective in improving students' religious literacy while supporting the creation of Islamic learning that is innovative, critical, moderate, and relevant to technological developments in the digital era
