Abstract

Interpersonal intelligence is one of the crucial aspects of social-emotional development in early childhood, yet implementing effective methods to develop it remains a challenge for early childhood educators. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the role-playing method and its influence on early childhood interpersonal intelligence. The research approach used is mixed methods with a sequential explanatory design, combining quasi-experimental quantitative and descriptive qualitative research. The research subjects were 52 children in Group B (aged 5-6 years) at TK Negeri Pembina Semarang in the 2024/2025 academic year: 26 children in the experimental group and 26 in the control group. The intervention lasted 10 weeks with a frequency of three times per week. Interpersonal intelligence was measured using the Early Childhood Interpersonal Intelligence Scale (SKIAUD) covering four subdimensions: empathy, social awareness, social regulation, and communication skills. ANCOVA results showed a significant effect (F=47.83; p<0.001; η²=0.49) of the role-playing method on interpersonal intelligence. Qualitative data from teacher observations and interviews revealed three key mechanisms of this method's effectiveness: perspective taking, role negotiation, and conflict resolution in play contexts. These findings confirm that role-playing is a powerful and enjoyable method for developing interpersonal intelligence in early childhood.
