Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of the work ethic of the madrasah principal in improving teacher performance at MI Al Munawwaroh 1 Bakauheni, South Lampung Regency, in the academic year 2024/2025. The research method used was qualitative with a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The results showed that the principal demonstrated a high work ethic, reflected in discipline, commitment, and exemplary leadership. This work ethic positively influenced teachers’ motivation and performance in carrying out teaching duties and professional development. The principal also implemented various strategies such as coaching, regular supervision, and effective rewards to enhance teacher performance. Despite some challenges, including budget constraints and administrative burdens, the principal’s work ethic remained a key factor driving improvements in teacher quality. This study highlights the importance of strengthening the madrasah principal’s leadership as a crucial element in enhancing educational quality. Practical implications suggest the need for capacity building for principals and optimal support from relevant policymakers
